AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn senior Western rider Stephanie Rucci has been chosen as one of the eight National Collegiate Equestrian Association riders to compete in the 2013 AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge, Nov. 20-21, 2013, during the AQHA World Championship show in Oklahoma City.
Rucci was selected because of her impressive statistics during the 2012-13 season. The second team All-American compiled a 9-5-1 record with two MOP honors. The Alpharetta, Ga. native has previously represented Auburn in the NRHA Collegiate Derby where she rode to a third-place finish.
Two meets into the 2013-14 season, Rucci is off to a strong start scoring a season high 76.5 along with an MOP award in a meet against Fresno State.
Sixteen collegiate riders from the NCEA and IHSA will compete on unfamiliar American Quarter Horses. The format will be a draw system for the first round and the finals will be a head-to-head format. Riders are given four-minute warm ups before performing patterns designed by competition judges.
Auburn begins SEC competition on Saturday, Nov. 9, against third-ranked South Carolina at 10 a.m. CT at the Auburn University Horse Center.
