Getting to Know Jennifer Delman
Oct. 25, 2011
by: Michael Stagno, Auburn media relations Explain your travels to England every other summer. "My mother is British and her entire family lives there. We go visit and it gives us a chance to see everyone that we don't get to see very often. They live in this really unique place called, `The New Forest' and it's very open land with rolling hills. There are a lot of donkeys, ponies, cows and sheep there that just roam around. You could be driving down the road and have to stop because there could be a horse sleeping in the middle of the road." Other than England, what other travels have you made? "I've actually traveled a lot because of my family in Europe. I've been to countries like France, Spain, England and Germany. I've also been to New York and visited the Caribbean, which is probably my favorite spot that I have been to. I would love to go to Hawaii someday." You're majoring in Pre-Pharmacy, what kind of career aspirations do you have? "I would like to work in a hospital. I did an internship at a hospital pharmacy in high school and I really enjoyed that." You're from Greensboro, N.C. How would you convince someone to live there? "It's a great place. It's a good mix of city, rural and country. It's in between the mountains and the beach, equally. So you can pick and choose your vacation spots." What do you look forward to the most in getting home to Greensboro, N.C.? "Seeing my family and my friends, I really miss all of them. I really want to see my horse, Cavalier Forever. We call him `Cav'." What is the best thing about the Hunt Seat event of Equestrian? "I like the size of the team, it's smaller and you get a chance to be more personable with your teammates and get to know them better. This team works so hard and the reward is always great." When did you know this sport was for you? "My mom rode when she was younger and she pushed me to ride as well. I've been riding since I was 5-years-old." What do you love most about horses? "I love that you can have a relationship with them. They're something that you can be around and if you're having a bad day, they're not going to turn on you." How have you adapted to life in Auburn and with the equestrian team? "I love it. My new friends have been a big help. I really love the campus and the team. All the girls are so nice." How do you feel about the potential of the Equestrian freshman class? "I think there's a lot of potential. We didn't bring in a lot of people on the Hunt Seat side, but we have a lot of great Western riders coming." Of all the events you have competed in prior to Auburn, what has been your most memorable one? "My favorite was the Virginia Hunt Seat Medal Finals, which I won in 2009. It was a great moment." What other sports do you enjoy watching/playing? "I really like running. I used to run track and cross country in high school. I like watching the Auburn football team as well." What person in your life do you admire most? "I'd have to say my trainer, Lynn Forgione. She has been with me for about six years now and she has been like a mother-type figure to me. She has helped me take my riding to a new level and has inspired me to work a lot harder." If you could have one exotic animal as a pet, what would it be?
"I'd love to have a zebra. They look like fun."
