No. 3 Auburn Equestrian Set to Open Season Against No. 5 Oklahoma State

AUBURN, Ala. -

The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team is set to open the 2012-13 season against the No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowgirls Friday at 3 p.m., at the Auburn University Horse Center.

The Tigers are coming off top-five finishes in both Hunt Seat and Western at the 2012 NCEA National Championships and are looking to start strong in the fall portion of their schedule.

"I'm sure both teams are equally excited to get things kicked off this weekend,” Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. “I hope all of the Auburn fans can come out as we start our new season. Home crowds make a big difference at the elite level, and there are sure to be some major rides and scores on Friday.”

Competing for Auburn in equitation over fences will be Elizabeth Benson, Quincy Hayes, Christina Lin, Melena Smith and Jennifer Waxman. Anna Becker will ride exhibition, and Lindsay Portela will be the alternate.

In equitation on the flat, the Tigers will feature Anna Becker, Elizabeth Benson, Jennifer Delman, Christina Lin and Lindsay Portela. Quincy Hayes will ride exhibition, and Melena Smith will be the alternate.



In horsemanship, Auburn will ride Katie Buff, Griffin Knight, Katsy Leeman, Indy Roper and Stephanie Rucci. Chelsea Zillner will ride exhibition, and Danielle Long will be the alternate.

Competing in reining will be Morgan Burns, Cheyenne Cracraft, Hailey Munger, Indy Roper and Stephanie Rucci. Julianna Cook will be the alternate.

The first 100 fans in attendance at Friday’s meet will receive an Auburn Equestrian t-shirt. Pony rides, Paint a Pony and painted horseshoes will be available for kids throughout the meet. Horse hopper races, a t-shirt toss and sack races will take place during intermission.
