Auburn Equestrian Opens Up Fall Season in South Carolina
Sept. 27, 2006 Auburn - The National Championship Auburn equestrian team heads to Columbia, S.C., to take on SEC rival and two-time defending National Champion hunt seat team South Carolina on Saturday September 30 at 9 am central. Auburn fell to the Gamecocks twice in the regular season last year and once at the Southern Equestrian Championships, but the Tigers were able to upset them for the VENC title with South Carolina winning the hunt seat title. The Gamecocks opened their season with a win against Baylor. "Traveling in this sport is always hard," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams, "because you don't get the home field advantage and you don't know all of the horses. I don't know if we could have picked a stronger opening meet. "I think we are looking good," continued Williams. "We'll see if some of the freshmen can jump in and step up for us." Auburn's next match-up will be when it hosts Ohio State on October 7.
