Auburn, Ala. -
The Auburn equestrian team will open the 2012-13 season ranked No. 3 in the NCEA preseason coaches' poll, it was announced Wednesday.
The Tigers join fellow SEC opponents Georgia, Texas A&M and South Carolina as the top four teams in the preseason poll with Georgia and Texas A&M sharing the No. 1 spot and South Carolina ranked fourth.
"I think it is quite an honor for Auburn and the SEC to be looked at so favorably," Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. "It will be interesting to see how it looks at the end of April."
Auburn is coming off top-five finishes in each discipline at the 2012 NCEA National Championships. The Hunt Seat team placed fourth and the Western team fifth. The Tigers will look to leadership from returning All-Americans Jennifer Waxman, Jennifer Delman, Cheyenne Cracraft and Indy Roper to have another successful year.
Auburn will also be host to the first SEC Championship March 29-30, 2013, at the Auburn University Horse Center.
The Tigers will open their season Friday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. CT at the AUHC against No. 5 Oklahoma State.
