AUBURN, Alabama -- For the second-consecutive year Indy Roper will represent the Auburn equestrian team at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Collegiate Reining Championships, Saturday, June 29th in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Collegiate Reining Championship consists of 12 riders - four from the NCEA, four from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, and four that are selected by the NRHA. The NCEA will send its top four reiners from the 2012-2013 season to this year's championship, with all four having been named to the NCEA First-Team All-America squad. Recent graduate Indy Roper was selected to represent the Tigers at this year's NRHA Derby.
"Indy has just completed a most remarkable collegiate career here at Auburn." Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. "She is one of the most talented riders the NCAA has ever seen and was very talented in the classroom as well. It is great for Auburn to have another year with an entry in this great event and Indy is a great representation for us."
Roper, competing in both the reining and the horsemanship, helped the Auburn equestrian team to an Overall National Championship at the recent 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Championships.
Roper was named a 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Association All-American in reining and was also a first-team Academic All-American.
Also representing the NCEA will be McKenzie Lantz (Georgia), Katy Krshka (Oklahoma State), and Laura Dunlavy (South Dakota State). The 2013 NRHA Derby runs June 22-29 at the State Fair Arena. For more information on the Derby, visit www.nrhaderby.com.
