Lyndsey Jordan to compete in NRHA Collegiate Derby

    June 25, 2010

Oklahoma City, Okla.- - Lyndsey Jordan will ride as a Tiger for one last time at the NRHA Collegiate Derby on Saturday in Oklahoma City. Jordan, a recent graduate, is one of 12 riders chosen to represent the NRHA, NCAA and IHSA organizations in the competition.

This will be Jordan's fourth time representing Auburn at the collegiate derby. In 2009, Jordan won the derby riding "A Blazin Enterprise" and finished third in 2007 and 2008.

"I am so excited to compete again for my last year," Jordan said. "I have high hopes, and I want to win it again for my senior year."

Unlike normal collegiate competitions, 12 horses will be used, and there is no head to head competition in the derby. Because of this, the horse that each rider draws will make a difference in the outcome of the competition.

Riders were selected based on NRHA points, winnings and competition history, NCAA Varsity Equestrian coaches' recommendations and the IHSA National Championship qualifying class, which was held in Lexington, Ky.

"Its always wonderful to be selected for the derby, but to make that cut four years in a row is phenomenal," said head coach Greg Williams. "She won this event last year, so I hope this year she can enjoy the experience even more with less pressure. If she draws well I think the crowd will see a thrilling ride, but Lyndsey is capable of winning on any horse she draws."

Jordan, who also represented Auburn as an individual selection at the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, said she cannot wait to compete.

"I am so glad to have the opportunity to represent Auburn again, even though I already graduated," Jordan said. "I am doing this for my team and for Auburn."

NRHA Selections are: Sarah Locker (University of Georgia) Helen Lauth (South Dakota State University) Jesse Gentile (Ohio State University) Lyndsey Jordan (Auburn University)

NCAA Varsity Equestrian Selections are: Maggie Gratny (Texas A&M University) Rebecca McReynolds (New Mexico State University) Diandre St. Hilaire (University of Georgia) Carrie Von Uhlit (Texas Christian University)
