Auburn's Lyndsey Jordan Selected to Compete in the NRHA Derby
June 12, 2009
AUBURN - Auburn equestrian's Lyndsey Jordan has been selected to compete in the Collegiate Reining Championships at the 2009 National Reining Horse Association Derby on June 27 at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. The top 12 collegiate riders were selected based on their performances. Four riders were chosen at the 2009 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Show in the NRHA sponsored Reining, four were chosen by the Varsity Equestrian Reining Committee, while the remaining four were chosen based on their NRHA accomplishments the past two years.
"Qualifying as one of the top 12 college Reiners in the country is a great honor," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "This championship format is a little different than the rest of the main season; there can be a luck of the draw factor." Jordan, a native of Georgetown, Ky., has been a steady performer for the Tigers since arriving on the Plains as a freshman. Last year at the Derby, she finished third for the second year in a row with a score of 218.5. Prior to coming to the Plains, she was a two-time National Reining Horse World Champion, a three-time All-American Quarter Horse Congress Champion, a United States Equestrian Federation Champion and Reserve Champion, multiple Derby Championships and North American Youth Championships. "I believe Lyndsey will be able to score high on an easier ride, but will be willing to ask more out of herself on a tougher one," said Williams. "That is why I really like her odds at this event."
