April 19, 2011
AUBURN -- The Auburn national champion equestrian team will be honored with a celebration at the Tiger Walk entrance outside of Gate 10 on the south side of Jordan-Hare Stadium on Thursday at 5:15 pm Central. Fans are encouraged to join the team as they celebrate by rolling the trees at the Tiger Walk entrance following the event. Auburn won its second overall national championship and its second hunt seat national championship in Waco, Texas, last Saturday. The Tigers also won the national championship in 2006 and were the 2008 hunt seat national champions. The equestrian team will be on hand for the celebration and receive congratulatory wishes from a number of Auburn dignitaries. The Auburn spirit squads will also be in attendance. For the third time throughout the championships, the Tigers dominated their competition, downing No. 2 seed Georgia 6-2 for the hunt seat title. With the win, Auburn secured the overall national championship. The Tigers also earned three of four MVPs that were awarded to the most valuable players in equitation over fences, equitation on the flat, horsemanship and reining. Junior Grace Socha was the over fences MVP, junior Maggie McAlary was the flat MVP and senior Paige Monfore was the reining MVP.
