    No. 5 Auburn Equestrian Looks to Defend National Title at National Collegiate Equestrian Championships

    The No. 5 Auburn equestrian team is set to compete at the 2012 National Collegiate Equestrian Championships at the Extraco Events Center, April 12-14, in Waco, Texas.

    The Tigers are looking to defend their 2011 Overall National Championship and Hunt Seat National Championship.

    In Auburn’s first round of competition, Equitation over Fences competitors will be Quincy Hayes, Maggie McAlary, Grace Socha and Jennifer Waxman, with Christina Lin as the alternate.

    Equitation on Flat will feature Jennifer Delman, Christina Lin, Maggie McAlary and Lindsay Portela, with Anna Becker as the alternate.

    In the Western arena, Horsemanship will ride Kristin Hansen, Katsy Leeman, Indy Roper and Stephanie Rucci, with Danielle Long as the alternate.

    Competing in Reining will be Cheyenne Cracraft, Kristin Hansen, Indy Roper and Stephanie Rucci with Jillian Fuller as the alternate.


     

     

    “This team knows they are a great team and one of the most talented that I have ever seen compete,” Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. “I think now they realize there is no season left after this, so they should hit the intensity level they need. They are an outstanding group, and I don’t think they will let each other down this week.”

    The top-seeded Hunt Seat team and the No. 4 seed Western team each received first-round byes and await their opponents for Thursday afternoon’s competition. Hunt Seat will face the winner of eighth-seeded TCU and No. 9 Kansas State, while the Western team will face the winner of fifth-seeded South Carolina and No. 12 Tennessee-Martin.
