AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn freshman Lacy Watson has been named the Southeastern Conference SEC Freshman Rider of the Year for horsemanship, as determined by a vote of the league's four head coaches.
Watson, a Goshen, Ohio native, garnered SEC Horsemanship Freshman Rider of the Year honors after competing in 12 of 15 meets as a true freshman. She posted a 5-7 record with one MVP honor and has tallied four of Auburn's top-10 scores in horsemanship this season with four at 74 or better, including a season-best score of 76. At the SEC Championship, Watson scored a 137.5 vs. Georgia and a 145 against Texas A&M.
"We are so proud of Lacy and what she has accomplished this year," said head coach Greg Williams. "She has incredible feel for horses and her best is still yet to come so I am really excited for her future."
On Wednesday, the SEC will announce its 2014 Riders of the Year, Coach of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
