The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team will travel to Athens, Ga., March 30-31, to take on No. 1 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina at the 2012 Southern Equestrian Championships. The Tigers will face the Gamecocks on Friday at 1 p.m. CT and look to advance to the Saturday’s championship meet against the Bulldogs.
“Practices are going great,” Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. “They have ridden everything perfectly the past couple of days. It’s exactly the right time for them to be in their peak performances, so we are looking forward to Friday.”
Riding for Auburn against South Carolina in Equitation on the Flat will be Anna Becker, Jennifer Delman, Christina Lin, Maggie McAlary and Grace Socha with Lindsay Portela and Melena Smith serving as the alternates.
In Equitation over Fences, the Tigers will ride Quincy Hayes, Christina Lin, Maggie McAlary, Grace Socha and Jennifer Waxman. Piper Donnelly and Melena Smith are the alternates.
In the Western arena, riding in Horsemanship will be Kristin Hansen, Katsy Leeman, Danielle Long, Indy Roper and Stephanie Rucci, with Katie Buff as the alternate.

The Tigers have won the previous two Southern Equestrian Championships. In 2010, they defeated South Carolina, 14-5, in the semifinal round of competition and went on to upset top-ranked Georgia, 12-7, in the championship meet. Last year, the Bulldogs advanced to the championship after beating the Gamecocks, but fell to Auburn 11-9 in the final round.
