Maggie McAlary Awarded NCEA February Student-Athlete of the Month

NCEA - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association awards Maggie McAlary of Auburn University and Megan Hawkins of the University of Georgia with the February Student-Athlete of the Month award. McAlary is the Hunter Seat Student-Athlete of the Month. McAlary is a senior majoring in communications from Amherst, N.H., and competes in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat for the Tigers. McAlary is undefeated for the month of February with a record of 2-0 in both events. In Equitation on the Flat, McAlary defeated her opponent by an average of 15 points while she earned MVP honors for both of her rides in Equitation over Fences. Hawkins is the Western Student-Athlete of the Month. Hawkins is a junior from Reddick, Fla., and competes in Horsemanship for the Bulldogs. Throughout the month of February she has been undefeated, 4-0, in Horsemanship. Hawkins also earned two MVP honors in the month of February alone. Hawkins’ wins played pivotal roles in assisting her team win against high ranking opponents over the last month. The National Collegiate Equestrian Association will be selecting its final Student-Athlete of the Month in April. The monthly award will resume for the 2012-2013 season with the naming of the September recipients.
