NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Auburn Equestrian (6-5) defeated Stephen F. Austin 13-7 on Sunday to wrap up the Texas Trilogy. The Tigers swept the Ladyjacks in all four sections of the afternoon and have now won both matches against Stephen F. Austin this season.
"We had great rides from horsemanship, which is what we've needed for some time," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams
. "The hunt seat team continued to ride extremely well and got the win today. Our western team pulled out a win as well. We rode much better today."
Auburn won the hunt seat title 7-3, sweeping all three schools in the Texas Trilogy. Taking MVP honors for the Tigers over fences was freshman Katie Breedlove who had a high ride of 81. This was Breedlove's third MVP honor over fences this weekend.
"The hunt seat continued to ride well, getting the clean sweep this weekend," said Williams. "Katie, like a lot of our freshmen, had a huge weekend. She had one of the toughest horses, and her opponent had a great score. I thought that her score was going to be hard to match, but she picked up a couple of extra points."
After tough losses to TCU and Baylor, the western team brought home a 6-4 win. Earning MVP honors for Auburn was senior Whitney Kimble with a high ride of 76 in horsemanship and freshman Lyndsey Jordan in reining with a 67.5.
"Our horsemanship stepped way up today," Williams said. "I think that they focused hard on what they wanted. They knew they couldn't make any costly mistakes like they had yesterday. SFA had played us very close in western when they came to Auburn. To get the win on the rode against them was a huge accomplishment."
Auburn returns to action on Mar. 10 when it hosts New Mexico State at 1 pm.
