The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team (7-2) is ready to travel for the first time this spring to take on No. 5 South Carolina (4-5) on Saturday in Blythewood, S.C. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
“Winning on the road is tough in this sport, but we have put ourselves in a position to have to do so after last weekend’s loss,” Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. “We beat ourselves last Saturday through penalties, but that is very uncharacteristic of this team. I am really looking forward to watching how hard they will be competing against South Carolina.”
Competing for Auburn in Equitation over Fences will be Quincy Hayes, Christina Lin, Maggie McAlary, Grace Socha and Jennifer Waxman. Melena Smith will serve as the alternate.
Equitation on the Flat will feature Anna Becker, Jennifer Delman, Christina Lin, Maggie McAlary and Lindsay Portela, with Grace Socha as the alternate.
Competing in Western Horsemanship will be Katie Buff, Danielle Long, Indy Roper, Stephanie Rucci and Chelsea Zillner. Katsy Leeman is the alternate.
In Reining, Auburn will ride Cheyenne Cracraft
, Jillian Fuller
, Kristin Hansen
, Indy Roper
and Stephanie Rucci
. Morgan Burns
will serve as the alternate.
The two teams met once before this season on Oct. 8, 2011, when Auburn defeated the Gamecocks, 1486-1444.5, at home.
The Tigers are coming off a close home loss to No. 3 Georgia last Saturday. Auburn fell by less than two points in raw score after the meet was tied, 8-8.
South Carolina is coming off its fourth win of the season after it defeated Tennessee-Martin, 16-3, on the road on Feb. 11.
