AUBURN, Ala. -- The third-ranked Auburn equestrian team hits the road for an SEC meet against No. 7 Georgia on Saturday, at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. CT.
"Auburn and Georgia have won more national titles than anyone else," said head coach Greg Williams. "It carries over from every sport we have. I think they elevate their game a lot more against us than some other people, and I'm hoping this weekend we do the same. I think both teams really get up for this one."
Auburn (8-2, 3-1 SEC) is looking for their second win against the Bulldogs this year. The Tigers defeated Georgia in the fall at the AU Horse Center. UGA entered the meet ranked No. 1 in the nation only to be knocked off by then second-ranked Auburn, 12-8.
"They are very talented in the Hunt Seat and Western; both of their wins are coming almost equally," Williams said. "They are a pretty balanced team. They always are, but even more so this year. But we are pretty balanced as well. So you are going to be looking at two very good teams going against each other."
Auburn will put up the same equitation over fences lineup as in nine-of-10 meets this season, featuring Benson, Quincy Hayes, Lin, Stiegler, and Jennifer Waxman. Auburn is an impressive 37-10 in over fences (.740).
In the western arena Auburn will ride Lucy Igoe, Griffin Knight, Danielle Long, Rucci and Lacy Watson in horsemanship. Reining will feature Cheyenne Cracraft, Knight, Katsy Leeman, Hailey Munger and Rucci. Knight and Rucci will be riding doubles for the Tigers.
