The Auburn equestrian team will play host to Oklahoma State, the defending National Western Champions, on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 pm at the Auburn Equestrian Center.
After last week's narrow victory over Stephen F. Austin, the Tigers are now gearing up to face the Cowgirls for the first time since their meeting in the final western bracket at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships. There, Oklahoma defeated Auburn for the western title 851-847.
"We needed to work on the small mistakes that we made against Stephen F. Austin," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "They are really unforgiving. A couple of baubles and you are out scored.
"We have stepped up the intensity this week, and we are ready to come in hard. Again, there have been some changes to the lineup, and hopefully those will help us in various ways."
Competing for the Tigers in western horsemanship will be senior Whitney Kimble, junior Kimberly Tidwell, sophomore Ashley Griffith and Ashley Milton and freshman Jessica Jones. Riding in the reserve spot will be freshman Kylie Miller.
Joining Kimble, Griffith and Jones in reining will be senior Julie Gibbes and freshman Lyndsey Jordan. Riding reserve will be Tidwell.
Riding for the Tigers in equitation on the flat will be senior Natalie Burton, sophomores Jenny Reinhart and Maggie White and freshmen Chelsea Anheuser and Rebecca Rifkin. Riding reserve will be freshman Katie Breedlove.
Rounding out the hunt seat roster in equitation over fences will be sophomores Jessica Braswell and Lauren Hulen as well as Breedlove who join Burton and Reinhart. Riding reserve will be White.
