MARTIN, TN -- The Auburn Equestrian team went on the road for the first time this season and came back victorious as it defeated UT-Martin 13-6.
Auburn won all four events and had riders named MVP in each event as the Tigers cruised to their third straight win of the season. Dottie Grubb won the MVP in equitation over fences, Coburn Park took MVP honors in equitation on the flat, in reining Paige Monfore won the MVP award on her birthday, and Amy Bohan was named MVP in horsemanship.
"This was our first road trip of the season," coach Greg Williams said. "This is one of the hardest sports to go on the road and win, so for us to pick up wins in all four categories and to have all four MVP's is a great way to open up on the road."
In equitation over fences, Auburn received points from Elise Fraza, Katie Breedlove, Chelsea Annheuser and Dottie Grubb. Auburn also received points in equitation on the flat from Annie Loar, Alli Loprete, Jennifer Jordan and a tie from Coburn Park. In reining, Julie Gibbes, Ashton Fairey and Paige Monfore scored points while Bailey Dymond, Amy Bohan and Kylie Miller added points in horsemanship.
"We got to test out a lot of riders today," Williams said. "So we as coaches were able to see how riders were going to react to being on horses they had never seen before and riding in new places."
This is UT-Martins second season of equestrian and the first time Auburn has traveled to face them. Next week Auburn travels to Athens, Ga. to face the rival Bulldogs of the University of Georgia.
