No. 2 Auburn Equestrian Defeats No. 6 Kansas State 12-3 Sunday

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team defeated No. 6 Kansas State 12-3 Sunday in Fresno, Calif. The Tigers improved to 12-3 while the Wildcats fell to 5-7.
"Today was a bit of redemption for our riders after yesterday," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "I'm really proud of how they handled the situation and set themselves up to win today."
Auburn defeated Kansas State in each of the four events, taking Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 3-1, Equitation on the Flat 4-0, Western Horsemanship 3-1 and Western Reining 2-1.
In Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences, Auburn was led by MVP Maggie McAlary. McAlary defeated Kansas State's Larissa Laffey 85-79. Other Auburn winners included Anna Schierholz over Kali Yates 78-50 and Grace Socha over Bridget Doyle 84-83. Kansas State's Kristen Rheinlander defeated Auburn's Ali Loprete 80-76.
In Equitation on the Flat, Auburn easily took all four points led by MVP Ali Loprete. Loprete defeated Ashley Collett 81-74, Maggie McAlary defeated Christina Costello 71-59, Anna Becker defeated Larissa Laffey 71-56 and Katie Breedlove defeated Kali Yates 76-68.
In Western Horsemanship, Tiger winners included Indy Roper over Alyssa Freeman 73-71, Jessica Jones over Laura Browne 73.5-69 and Kristin Hansen over Courtney Watters 73.5-71. For the Wildcats, MVP Mikaela Sundgren defeated Bailey Dymond 74-67.5.
In Western Reining, Auburn's Jillian Fuller defeated Kaylee Stout 70-69.5 and Paige Monfore defeated Alecia Zimbleman 72-69. Kansas State earned a point behind MVP Tara Hallan as she defeated Lyndsey Jordan 72-71. Auburn's Kim Pope and Kansas State's Morgan Campbell tied at 65.5.
The Tigers return to action at home March 26-27 for the Southern Equestrian Championships at the Auburn Equestrian Center. The Tigers are scheduled to compete against No. 5 South Carolina Friday at 3 p.m. CT and the winner will compete against No. 1 Georgia Sunday at 10 a.m. The Tigers previously defeated the Gamecocks (6-5) 10-9 on Feb. 6 in Blythewood, S.C., and then defeated the Bulldogs (10-2) 12-6 at home on March 6.
