Auburn Equestrian Picks Up Two Wins on the Road

The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team picked up two crucial road wins today, defeating No. 6 Kansas State 7-6 and No. 10 New Mexico State 13-3 at Timber Creek Stables in Manhattan, Kan.

"It's great to be picking up road wins, particularly at the end of the season," said head coach Greg Williams. "Our hunt seat girls were on fire in the first meet leading us to a win. In the second meet against New Mexico State, both hunt seat and western were equally impressive with dominant performances. We need to have these type rides tomorrow against Oklahoma State. Im really proud of the girls."

Auburn (10-3) defeated Kansas State's hunt seat riders handily, winning 6-2. In equitation over fences, the Tigers swept the Wildcats 4-0 behind freshman MVP Christina Lin, who defeated Kali Yates 79-70. Other Tiger winners included senior Anna Schierholz over Shana Barnett 82-68, senior Dottie Grubb over Catherine Avolese 78-77 and junior Grace Socha over Sarah Mershon 79-71.

In equitation on the flat, Auburn tied Kansas State 2-2. Auburn points came from sophomore Lindsay Portela, who defeated Larissa Laffey 76-68 and Lin, who defeated Stephanie Patterson 74-69.

Auburn's western riders fell Kansas State 4-1. The Tiger horsemanship riders tied the Wildcats 1-1. Freshman Stephanie Rucci picked up the western team's lone point of the meet, defeating Rachel Wetherell 72.5-72. Sophomore Indy Roper tied Hanna Ribera with a score of 72 and earned the horsemanship MVP and senior Bailey Dymond tied Cheyna DeNicolo with a score of 64.

In reining, Auburn fell 3-0. Senior Paige Monfore tied Alecia Zimbelman with a score of 69.

Both the hunt seat and western squads defeated New Mexico State, winning 6-2 and 7-1 respectively and earning all four MVPs.

The Auburn horsemanship riders completed a 4-0 sweep, led by Roper, who picked up her second MVP of the day as she defeated Megan Gould 73-69. Senior Mary Casey defeated Pamela Evans 71.5-68.5, junior Kristin Hansen defeated Kyra Cruz 70-69 and Rucci defeated Chelsea Campbell 71-67.

The Auburn reiners were led by junior MVP Jillian Fuller, who defeated Chelsea Campbell 67-64.5. Other Tiger winners included Monfore over Tara Wilson 67.5-58 and Hansen over Breanne Bertrand 67-62.5.

In equitation over fences, senior Ali Loprete picked up the MVP, defeating Amy Lang 83-70. Other Auburn points came from Lin, who defeated Stephanie Gershon 81-71 and freshman Jennifer Waxman, who defeated Laura Bostwick 79-75.

The Tiger flat riders were led by junior MVP Maggie McAlary, who defeated Brianna Raab 82-66. Other Tiger winners included Loprete over Sam Stephens 77-69 and Portela over Erica Daniels 78-72.

Auburn travels to Stillwater, Okla. to take on No. 4 Oklahoma State tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT.
