Junior guard Whitney Boddie was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists during the Buckeye Classic.
Boddie earned MVP honors, the first of her career, after leading No. 24 Auburn to a pair of victories in the Buckeye Classic. Auburn beat No. 15 Ohio State, 67-58, in the championship game, and won its opener over Winston-Salem State, 70-37. It marked the first time since Dec. 16, 2001, a ranked Auburn team defeated a ranked opponent. The last time a No. 24-ranked Auburn squad defeated a team ranked higher was Jan. 12, 1995.
Against the Buckeyes, Boddie turned in a season best 20 points, one point shy of her career high, and 10 rebounds, one rebound shy of tying her career high. It marked her second double-double of the week and third of her career. She also dished out seven assists vs. Ohio State. Boddie led the Tigers with 13 points and nine rebounds vs. the Lady Rams the previous night.
With the win in the championship game, Auburn has now picked up six straight victories in regular season tournament play. It also marks the third straight tournament title and third straight time an Auburn player earned MVP honors.
Auburn (6-0) will play at the Arizona State Classic Nov. 30/Dec. 2 in Tempe, Ariz. The Tigers meet UC Riverside (0-4) at 9 p.m. CT on Friday, and will face either Gonzaga or No. 14 Arizona State on Sunday (1 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. CT).
