Troy Game Notes
The Auburn women's basketball team will host Troy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. It is Youth Night and all youth 17 and under will receive free admission with a paid adult.
"We are excited to continue our season at home and have Troy come here," head coach Nell Fortner said. "They are a veteran team that returns four starters. Most of their points and rebounds per game from last year are returning. They are a smart team and play hard every minute."
Troy will open its season against Auburn and returns 11 letterwinners from the 2006-07 team that went 12-17 and 5-13 in its second season in the Sun Belt Conference (East Division). The Trojans return leading scorer senior Amy Lewis, who averaged 15.2 points per game, and its leading rebounder junior Danielle Realph, who grabbed 7.3 a game. Also back in the lineup is junior Larelle Roper who led the team with 129 assists. The Trojans are coached by Michael Murphy who is in his fifth year.
"With Troy being right down the road, this should make for a very competitive game," Fortner said. "Any time you play other Alabama schools, you can always expect their best effort, became beating an SEC team can make a huge statement for their program. We will have to be ready to give our best effort."
Auburn opened its season with a 91-47 victory over Detroit Mercy this past Sunday. The Tigers had six players scoring in double figures, led by senior Tamela McCorvey with 18. The Tigers shot 47.9 percent for the game, while holding the Titans to 32.2 percent and a mere 27.3 percent from beyond the arc. Auburn won the battle on the boards, grabbing 51 rebounds compared to 27 by Detroit.
