Women's Basketball Invites Auburn Fans To 2008-09 Season Kickoff Celebration
Oct. 21, 2008
AUBURN - The Auburn women's basketball team invites fans to come out to the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Saturday as the team holds its Season Kickoff Celebration. Going from 1-3 p.m., the Tigers will hold a scrimmage and meet-and-greet with the fans. "This weekend is an opportunity to give back to our fans a little bit and let them come out and watch us practice and scrimmage," said head coach Nell Fortner. "The fans will have an opportunity to mingle with the players, which is always a neat thing for both the players and fans, just to get to know each other." With eight letterwinners and four starters returning from last season's squad that went 20-12 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers have adopted the theme "The Time Is Now" as it heads into the 2008-09 season. Highlighting the Season Kickoff Celebration is a scrimmage; an opportunity to meet the team and coaching staff; an inflatable bounce house for children ages 12 and under; face tattoos and balloons with the Auburn cheerleaders, Tiger Paws and Aubie; and an autograph session with the team. Season tickets will also be available for purchase at the event. Auburn will play 12 home games during the 2008-09 season, taking on teams such as Temple, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama and defending national champion Tennessee. "This weekend will also give fans an opportunity to buy season tickets and to join the Tiger Zone (the Auburn women's basketball booster club)," said Fortner. "We will be having a barbeque and a jump machine for the kids. It's just a fun, fan-friendly day and is a great opportunity for people to come see us get up and down the court a little bit." A barbeque lunch will be available for the first 300 people that purchase a $5 meal coupon. The Season Kickoff Celebration is open to the public and free of charge. Auburn is set to open its season with a home exhibition game against Anderson University at 2 p.m., Nov. 9 in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The regular season is slated to open on the road at Alabama A&M on Nov. 14, with the home opener against Temple following on Nov. 17.
Season tickets went on sale on Oct. 1. Individual packages are $50, while the family plan, which includes four tickets, is $150. Regular season-single game tickets are $5 and Auburn students are allowed in for free. Groups of 20 or more can purchase in advance for a discounted price of $2 per ticket. All exhibition games are free to the public. For more information, please call the Athletic Department ticket office at 1-800-AUB-1957 or visit www.auburntigers.com. |
