"First I would start by making the shorts much shorter, and then I would move on to the shoes. I feel like they're a little bulky for me, so I would make them a little lighter." And that's why Pascale West, a center for the Auburn Women's Basketball team is a fashion merchandise major.
"I've always been interested in clothes, and the designing of clothes although my major isn't fashion design because of my dedication to basketball," said West. "My sister majored in fashion merchandise at Brenau University, and when she came home and started talking about her classes and interests, I knew that's what I wanted to do as well."
Not only does Pascale love clothes and shoes, but modeling is an interest of hers as well. She recently auditioned for Auburn's Modeling Board, a group of young models on campus, and although she wasn't able to participate due to basketball, it's not going to stop her from reaching some of her goals in the fashion world.
"I've been told that I should pursue modeling and I've given it some thought. I may even audition for America's Next Top Model (A show hosted by her favorite model, Tyra Banks.) following graduation."
Now a junior at Auburn, West has started to look ahead to her life after basketball.
"I'm going to do a runway show next month, and that's pretty exciting," said West. "My plan right now is to move to Atlanta after graduating and assist or intern for a local designer. From there I hope to reach my ultimate goal, which is to become a buyer for Macy's in New York."
The 6-8 center, who is the perfect height for runway modeling, describes her personal style as eclectic.
"I would say I dress comfortable, but stylish at the same time," said West. "I always dress nice for class. Women like Iman, Tyra Banks, and Beyonce influence my personal style."
When asked about her favorite designers, names like Michael Kors were brought up. Kors is a designer and one of the judges on "Project Runway."
"I have a few favorite places that I like to shop at right now, but mostly I go where it is affordable and has the trendiest clothes," said West. "But when I can afford to, I will love shopping in high-fashion clothing stores with designers such as Michael Kors."
With her time in college winding down, West is excited for the future and determined to make her mark off the court and in the fashion Industry, whether it be in modeling, designing, or styling.
"I can't believe I am one of the older players on the team now," said West. "But, I am ready for the challenge and excited about what the next few years of my life hold."
