AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn will play seven home games during the non-conference portion of the 2014-15 women's basketball schedule, released by head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy today.
The Tigers' 13-game non-conference schedule will also include four road trips before league play begins, including a pair of tournaments in New York and Miami.
"We're very excited about our non-conference schedule," Williams-Flournoy said. "It is a tough schedule that will help us prepare for the Southeastern Conference, especially our games away at St. John's and at Virginia."
The schedule features as many as eight teams that advanced to postseason play in 2013-14, including four that made NCAA Tournament appearances. Three of Auburn's non-conference opponents - Florida Gulf Coast, Winthrop and Hampton - won their respective conference tournament titles last season.
Auburn will open the season Friday, Nov. 14, as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women will face Troy at 6 p.m. with the men taking on Wisconsin-Milwaukee immediately thereafter. It will be one of two men's/women's doubleheaders on the season; the other will be Wednesday, Dec. 17, as the women face Savannah State at 6 p.m. and the men take on Winthrop at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The Tigers will play two more home games after the opener - Nov. 17 vs. Grambling State and Nov. 20 vs. Florida Gulf Coast - before hitting the road for a pair of tough out-of-conference tests. Auburn heads to the grounds of Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on Virginia on Nov. 23. The Tigers will then face defending Big South Conference champion Winthrop in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Nov. 29.
Auburn will then play four straight home games, hosting Marquette (Dec. 2), Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 4), Samford (Dec. 14) and Savannah State (Dec. 17). The non-conference schedule then wraps up with a pair of two-game road trips. Auburn will play in the St. John's Chartwells Holiday Classic in Queens, New York, facing St. John's on Dec. 20 and either Indiana State or SMU on Dec. 21. The Tigers will head to Miami right after Christmas for a tournament at Florida International, where they will play Hampton on Dec. 29 and either FIU or Bowling Green on Dec. 30.
