AUBURN - Former Auburn women's basketball players DeWanna Bonner and Le'Coe Willingham continue play in the second month of the 2013 WNBA season. Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury are currently 9-8 on the season, while Willingham and the Atlanta Dream are currently 10-5.
Bonner had a couple good games recently against conference rival Los Angeles. Despite losing at home against the Sparks, Bonner scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and tallied three steals. In the second game against the Sparks, the Mercury won the game 90-84. Bonner also had her third double-double of the season in the win, scoring 17 points with 11 rebounds.
Most recently, Phoenix is coming off an 82-77 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Bonner, however, scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied three assists. She is averaging 15.9 points per game (12th in the WNBA), 6.9 rebounds per game (9th) and 2.5 assists per game (24th) on the season while the Mercury are currently third in the Western Conference.
After a 10-1 start to the season, Willingham and the Atlanta Dream have dropped four in a row recently. The Dream's 10-1 run ended with a 72-94 loss against the Lynx. In the game against Minnesota, Willingham scored three points and grabbed one rebound. She scored five points with three rebounds and had a season-high of two blocks against Seattle. In the game against Los Angeles, she scored six points, grabbed a season high of 12 rebounds and a season high of three steals.
Willingham currently averages 3.4 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game on the season. Willingham and the Atlanta Dream are now second in the Eastern Conference.
Bonner and the Mercury will return to action July 24 against Minnesota on WNBA Live Access. Willingham and the Dream will return on July 24 against Connecticut on WNBA Live Access and NBA-TV.
