AUBURN - Former Auburn standouts DeWanna Bonner, with the Phoenix Mercury, and Le'Coe Willingham, with the Atlanta Dream, returned to the court a couple weeks ago to open the 2013 WNBA season. Bonner is now in her fifth WNBA season while Willingham is in her 10th.
Willingham was also reunited with her former Auburn coach this year as she was signed by Atlanta after spending last season with the Chicago Sky. Former Auburn women's basketball coach and hall of famer Joe Ciampi is currently an assistant coach with the Dream.
Bonner is currently 14th in the league in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game while the Mercury has posted a 1-3 record. For the 2013 season, Bonner is also averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game. The Fairfield, Ala., native is coming off her best game of the season, notching a double-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in an 82-67 win over Indiana.
Willingham, a native of Augusta, Ga., is currently averaging 1.4 points per game while grabbing three rebounds per game. The Atlanta Dream started out the season strong, going 4-1 with wins against the Tulsa Shock, Indiana Fever, Washington Mystics and New York Liberty.
Bonner will return to action June 14 against Los Angeles on Fox Sports Arizona, and June 16 at Tulsa. Willingham and the Atlanta Dream will play June 14 against Seattle, and June 16 against Chicago on SportSouth. All games can also be viewed on WNBA Live Access.
