WACO, Texas -- Terri Williams-Flournoy has been here before.

She's played in the NCAA Tournament, was an assistant coach in the NCAA Tournament, was a head coach in the NCAA Tournament.

She's already been a part of 14 other NCAA Tournaments. Now, she is back for NCAA Tournament 15, this time as Auburn's head coach. Alas, it's a different story for her players, and that's why Auburn will count on its usual fine defensive play to overcome its lack of post-season experience when it meets St. John's at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Ferrell Arena on the Baylor campus. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

"Taking your team for the first time it's a different type of excitement because you're no longer excited for yourself. You're just truly excited for your players," Williams-Flournoy said.

She played on three NCAA teams back in the day. Was an assistant coach at nine times when her teams played in the tournament. She was the head coach at Georgetown when the Hoyas went to the dance in 2011, going to the Sweet 16; and again in 2012, the year before she came to Auburn.

Now, she's back.

"It takes a little while to rebuild a team and it took us three years to build it," Williams-Flournoy said.

This is Auburn's 19th overall trip to the NCAAs, and this time the Tigers are seeded ninth to St. John's eighth seed. The winner will play on Sunday against the winner of Friday's other game, between home-standing and No. 1-seed Baylor and 16th-seed Idaho.

Look for defense in the Auburn game. The Tigers are averaging 62.2 points per game and allowing 59.2. St. John's is averaging 67 points per game and allowing 60.2

Auburn-St. John's isn't that strange. They played each other each of the last two years, each winning a game. Now they're meeting in the NCAAs after each practiced in the Ferrell Center on Thursday.

"It's definitely an honor for us to be able to come out here and be the face of Auburn," said leading scorer Tra'Cee Tanner. "But we've worked hard for this, and we're going to take full advantage of the opportunity. We just want to come out here and do big things."

Auburn is 19-12 overall after going 8-8 in the Southeastern Conference regular season. St. John's is 23-9 overall after going 11-7 in the Big East. The Red Storm also won the Big East Tournament.

Auburn slugged it out in the tough SEC, a conference that sent nine teams to the NCAAs. The Tigers said they'll be ready for another tough game Friday.

"We're used to that, playing in the SEC, and as tough as that conference is night in and night out," said guard Katie Frerking. "We know how to do that and just focus on one team and one game, and that's what we plan on doing."
