Auburn vs. Presbyterian
Dec. 18, 2013 | Auburn Arena
Auburn, Ala.

Auburn Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy

On the win...

"We're definitely happy to be 8-3. A win is a win. You look at the first half, and you're not happy with it. You look at the second half, and you see improvements. At the end of the day, you're just happy for the win because we've got some tough games ahead of us. As with most non-conference games, these two are a little bit more of the caliber of teams in the SEC. I really hope this will prepare us as we start SEC play."

On second half improvements...

"I thought we just upped our defensive press a little bit. I really thought in the first half we were just going through the motions. I think when you play a team like Presbyterian College you sometimes think that you really don't have to play as aggressive on defense and be in the right position. You think you can just steal the ball and not really play hard. I think they found out that Presbyterian College plays pretty hard, so we had to be in the right position and play tougher on defense in the second half."

On offense...

"Once we get our young ladies to understand that our defense makes our offense, that's how they will understand how we play."

On this weekend's road games...

"I think it is very important. You are playing two NCAA-caliber teams on the road which always helps us get ready for our tough SEC opponents on the road as well. We just want to go in and play as well as we can. I think we definitely have to play much better the first half, because with both Florida A&M and tonight we didn't play well the first half. You don't want to start the game like that."

On playing against 3-point shooters...

"I don't think we've played against anyone this year that hasn't been a 3-point shooting team. Presbyterian took 20 of them. It seems to be the thing this year."

On defense against 3-point shooters...

"I don't think it is so much our press. I think it is once we get over half-court. A lot of times it is when we are in our zone or penetration and there's help to kick it out to the 3-point shooters. We've got to realize that we are playing a team that shoots the 3-point shot. Sometimes they didn't have anyone in the post at all. They just have to do a better job defending the 3-point line."

On rotation...

"It's a game you want to get as many people in to play as you can because as the games get a little tougher down the road, your bench gets a little smaller."

Auburn Player Quotes

Tra'Cee Tanner, F, So.

On tonight's game...

"It is always good to get a win. Overall, we could have played better defense. In the second half, I think we picked it up. We need come out from tipoff like we did in the second half."

On defending the perimeter...

"Sometimes we just lose our man. We need to know where the 3-point shooters are and remember our scouting reports. We need to run people off the 3-point line and contain."

On the offensive efficiency...

"We definitely feed off our defense going on our offensive end. Even though we could have attacked more on offense and been more aggressive on defense, I think, compared to the first half, it was a lot better."

Tyrese Tanner, F, Sr.

On tonight's game...

"We took off the first half. We didn't come out strong. We thought we would win this game easily. We took off. It was disappointing and embarrassing. In the second half, I think we picked it up a little bit. We got a couple 10-second violations, which I was proud of. I think we executed our plays more. It was not good enough for who we are about to play in these next few games. These next few practices we have to step it up."

On holding Presbyterian to 8-of-40 shooting...

"Our goal was to hold them to less than 10 3-point field goal attempts. They had 20. Better teams that we play will knock them down. We are not too hot guarding the perimeter right now. Even though they only scored eight buckets, we could've held them to less."

Presbyterian College Head Coach Ronny Fisher

Thoughts on the game...

"I think Auburn has a tremendous team and are very talented. They play a really great defense. Their length and size obviously gave us a lot of problems. They wear teams down. We did not shoot the basketball well and a big reason for that was because we got tired. When you go against that kind of pressure for 40 minutes, it's tough. My hats off to them, they did a nice job."

On offense...

"We have got to get better offensively. We have got to execute better and knock down some open shots and free throws. The effort was there defensively, but we just weren't good enough on the offensive end. And the Auburn team had a lot to do with that."
