Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Auburn Head Coach Nell Fortner
"I am pleased with our shooting tonight. We have to work on our penetration because not doing so hurt us tonight. We gave up too many boards, but a win is a win. Any time you can get a win is good. When you give up 26 offensive rebounds and have 20 turnovers, that doesn't make me happy. We have so much room to improve defensively. It is a good thing that we shoot well."

On Whitney Boddie...
"She is steadily becoming the player we thought she could be. Having her as point is why we are shooting the ball. She's able to get the ball where we need it to go."

On finals break...
"It is a good time for us to have a break. We've gone really hard these past three weeks. Everyone's minds and bodies need a break. We won't practice for the next two days. It's going to do them a lot of good."

Freshman DeWanna Bonner
On the road games...
"We knew that we were a better team than that. We had the lead, but then something just happened and we didn't pull it out. We had to come in here tonight and prove to ourselves that we were capable of a win. We needed to play hard and show Coach that we weren't wishy-washy."

On the game...
"We had a bigger lineup tonight. We just went in there and took the ball to the hole. I started as a forward for the first time tonight. I had played that position in high school and during practice, but I was still a little shaky."

Freshman Whitney Boddie
On adjusting to collegiate play...
"It was an adjustment coming in here (Auburn) and playing point. Coach gives me a lot of confidence and tells me positive things. It really helps being surrounded by good players on the floor. I am used to shooting the ball, though I didn't hit all of them tonight."

On her legs...
"I am not at 100 percent yet, but I'm making it. I get tired more easily now. Coach is figuring ways out to put me in so this doesn't hurt my playing."

Western Carolina Head Coach Kellie Harper
On the game...
"You can't win a basketball game when you shoot 20 percent and your opponent shoots 55 percent. The odds are not going to be in your favor when you do that. I'm very disappointed. Auburn got a few good looks in transition and a lot of points in the paint."

On a 0-6 start to the season...
"When you look at the stats, you have to be excited. We had 26 offensive boards. We didn't make a lot of shots, but to get 26 against the size of team we played, we did well. We're gaining big time game experience before heading into our conference schedule. I think as long as we stay positive, we're going to have a good year in the conference."

On Western Carolina's next game Dec. 9 versus Radford...
"We need to have a quick turnaround. The coaches are going to watch some film on the way home. We'll have a light practice tomorrow. Hopefully we'll come out with the same fire and intensity. Our confidence is a little shaky at this time."
