Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Auburn Head Coach Nell Fortner

"I thought we started out okay with a little press. It wears us out kind of fast. We have to be kind of careful about that. I never thought we got much of a good flow because of the turnovers in the first half. There is no offensive flow in 18 turnovers. For whatever reason we were not making the best decisions on the floor."

On Whitney Boddie coming off the bench...
"I really like Whitney coming off the bench. She did a great job tonight coming off the bench. She gives us some offensive fire power. She had 11 rebounds and that's pretty amazing. What was happening was Whitney was passing up a lot of shots within our offense, then we start playing four-on-five. You can't do that. Until she understands she has to shoot the ball, Whitney is a really nice scorer. She was passing up way too many shots. So you know what? If that's the way you're going to play, you're going to have to watch. We have a little depth on this team. It allows me to do a few things."

On Joanna Clayden...
"She knows she's here to shoot the three. She has the greenest light of all. Whenever she sees her shot she needs to take it. She didn't shoot as well tonight, but let me tell you, she was huge in that last game in the Virgin Islands. Joanna has that way about her."

On struggling to score in the post...
"Trevesha (Jackson) was 0-for-4 in the first half, and she had five offensive rebounds. Her put backs were sailing over to the other side, so I'm not sure what was going on. I thought we did a good job on the offensives boards, we just didn't turn them into points for whatever reason. Maybe they were killing us down there and the whistle wasn't blowing. That was frustrating there. We should have shot a higher percentage and we should have had more points, but it just didn't happen for us."

On Reneisha Hobbs...
"This was Reneisha's first game back. Just to be able to get her up and down the floor and get her nerves out, she is going to be a heck of a player. She is so strong as a power forward. She has great energy about her. She can knock someone down defensively. She's not in condition right now, but she will work her way into that."

#33, KeKe Carrier

On the first half...
"I don't think we were really focused at the beginning of the game. At halftime coach gave us a couple of words and we tried to do better in the second half. We had 18 turnovers in the first half and we brought it down to five in the second half. We did a much better job of keeping the turnovers down."

On going into the locker room at halftime...
"We knew as soon as the buzzer hit that coach was going to have some things to say at halftime. We knew that we had to pick it up, and coach gave us some encouraging words."

On the officiating...
"It seems like they judge me as a regular player. If it looks like I go over the back sometimes it is me just being tall and having my hands over them. It is a little different and it is stressful at times."

On learning how to deal with officiating...
"In high school it was horrible. It was torture. The bad thing about it was every time we played one of our rival teams it seemed like they had paid them. It was crazy and it was the worst officiating that I have ever seen in my life, every time that we played one of our rival schools. That was my first time getting in to it with the officials. I have gotten used to it and I try not to stress too much about it. It is just going to happen."

JSU Head Coach Becky Geyer

On defensive intensity...
"We did all we could inside to slow the game down for Auburn. I thought we did a good job in the first half. In the second half, Auburn got in a rhythm and got some easy shots in transition. We did not match up at all size-wise. We are a small team in our own league, much less compared to Auburn."

On Jacksonville State's rebounding ability...
"It's been something we've been working on all along. We got out-rebounded 34-57. we gave up 20 offensive rebounds, that is not good at all. It also is harder to get rebounds when you play a zone like we do."

On Auburn's team...
"I've been familiar with Nell for a long time. She is a great coach. You can already see the progression she has made in this program. Two years ago, Jacksonville State beat Auburn. We are hoping to have the same kind of success here as she is having, once we get to be a veteran staff."

#5, Ashley Boykin

On Rebounding...
"It was not as good as it could have been. We boxed out better than we have in the past few games. The effort was there. They were much bigger than we are. We don't have a whole lot of size inside."

On team defense...
"We did a pretty good job. That wasn't what killed us; our inability to hold onto the ball when we had it is what killed us. Our inability to do that is what turned the game around."

#22, LaTonya McKinney

On Auburn's team...
"They were able to get on a roll. Player for player, I think we match up a lot closer than the score indicates, but we couldn't make a shot in the second half."

On the difference in the game...
"Their defensive intensity and three-point shooting is what really changed the game in their favor; that and turnovers."
