Head Coach Nell Fortner

Opening statement...
"It wasn't the prettiest of sorts, but we're still trying to figure ourselves out a little bit. I thought we had some great moments. I thought Blanche (Alverson) shot the ball really well there at the start of the game in the first half. I thought we got kind of tired. I think our tiredness showed in the second half and maybe a little bit of lack of focus in the second half. We were trying a different lineup and trying to get used to Jet (Najat Ouardad) as our point guard a little bit, so it's going to take us a bit."

On the defense...
"I thought that probably the full court press maybe wore us out a little bit in the first half and carried over to the second half. We have to be a pressure-defensive team, and we just have to keep working on that because we are athletic and that's what we're fast enough to do and have the bench to do. We just have to keep working on that and find our way there."

On the offense...
"Offensively, I thought we did some good things. In the first half I thought we knocked down some good shots. We still have a little ways to go there."

On wanting to execute throughout the game...
"Absolutely. We're not trying to work on being average, we're trying to work on being great, and that's what we have to continue to understand. We lost our focus. They are kids, and they tend to lose their focus a little easier, especially when they're up that much. We just have to keep at it. I see good things all the time, and we just have to keep staying at it."

On Najat Ouardad having an "up and down" day in her first start...
"It was, and that's to be expected because she's trying to find her way around and understand how to lead this team and push the ball and make the right pass. The other thing she has to get used to playing against is the quickness she's playing against just overall. She'll get better every game."

On Blanche Alverson sparking the team with her shooting in the first half...
"Yeah I thought Blanche definitely came in and sparked us with her 3-point shooting. A 3-point shot in the women's game is kind of like a dunk in the men's game, and it gets you fired up. It always seems like hers are just such big 3s, too, whenever she hits them."

On the offensive production from the bench...
"That's important. We have to have that bench playing well for us, so hopefully we can keep that up."

On the Troy game on Wednesday...
"Troy always plays us tough. They play a good motion-style offense that really is hard to penetrate and kick and really puts the pressure on your defense. You have to be ready to guard that and stop that penetration and stay out on shooters. It really puts a lot of pressure with the person who's guarding the ball to not have to have a lot of help, and you have to take care of your own man because if you have to bring help, they're kicking it out to shooters."

Blanche Alverson, Jr., G/F

On putting up points in the first half...
"They were playing zone pretty early so I wanted to come out and they gave me a little space. I just wanted to come out and shoot the ball well and that's what I did. That was the plan."

On getting ready for the December schedule...
"I think we're getting better each game. This game we played a little sloppy in the second half, and we have to cut that out. We have to play the full game of 40 minutes and that's what we have to work on to get better throughout the season."

On their next opponent, Troy...
"In state games are always tough ones for us. Everyone comes in. They're going to want to come in and they're going to play us tough, and the last couple of times we've played them, they've played us really tough. It's going to be a tough game and we're really going to have to get our minds right to come out with a win."

Hasina Muhammad, Fr., G/F

On making an impact...
"It was just coming out and playing my best. It's no different than any other game. I just come out and do what I do and attack the basket. I'm rebounding more, so that's helps my team a lot."

On expanded role...
"Attacking the basket is something the coaches wanted, but it's also my natural ability, so I can only do it to my best ability to help my team out more."

On getting better throughout the season as a freshman...
"I'm just being myself, attacking the basket, rebounding, and the coach wants me around the rim, because when I'm around the rim it's easier for me to rebound and my defensive game. I still need to work on my rebounding more, and my defense, but it's coming along."

Head Coach Tammy George

Overall thoughts on the game...
"We were pretty much outmanned in every area. We just got out-played. They are much bigger, stronger and faster than we are. I didn't feel like we came out ready to go. We kind of got a little lackadaisical in our zone and then got really going and hit some big shots."

On improvement in the beginning of the second half...
"I was really excited about the first 10 minutes of the second half. I felt like we kind of had a good spurt there and then we ran out of gas a little bit. We are battling some injuries and stuff. We were just a little bit outmanned tonight."

On moving forward this season...
"We just have to get more consistent. We have a lot of new kids. We have just got to get day in and day out more consistent doing the little things. Not here, there, not for five minutes in the game. Just get more consistent."

Tee 'Ara Copney, Jr., G

On the 75-34 loss to Auburn...
"I think we played well in spurts, but they out rebounded us by a lot. I think that was one of our main things that we could have focused on a lot more; especially limiting them to second-chance points and hustle plays."

On her 19 point performance...
"I've been working on extra shots with the coaches, so when it's there I try and put it in and shoot the ball. My teammates get me open a lot and set good screens for me in order for me to make that happen."

On where they can improve...
"I just think we have to get better on both ends, especially rebounding because we are not big and we are out manned a lot as you could see today. So I just think rebounding and everything will probably our best thing to do, we just need to work on that. Once that happens a lot of things will start carrying over."
