Auburn Quotes

Auburn 91, Tuskegee 23

Tuesday, November 07, 2006

Head Coach Nell Fortner

"I think this was the first time we have ever had 29 assists, so that was a real positive stat.  I think being able to get out and run, I think that was good for us tonight.  In that first half we were able to push the tempo and played some pretty good defense.  To hold a team, I don't care who we are playing, to four points, you have to be pleased with that."

On DeWanna Bonner...

"I hate to lose (DeWanna) Bonner like that.  We don't know her status right now.  She's in good spirits, but she going to have to go get x-rayed and see what happened.  We are really hoping that it's only broken.  It was more blood than I have ever seen before on a hit to the face.  Hopefully she is going to be okay."

On what Auburn gained from the blowout...

"You try to get kids playing time.  In the early going, one thing we forget when we coach for a long time is that this is the first time Jordan Greenleaf has played in Memorial Coliseum in front of people and Trevesha Jackson and Tamela McCorvey.  They have to be able to get out there and play and get those jitters out of them.  Also, the sophomore class is still very young, and they have to be able to get out there and produce, and I thought they did tonight.  Sherell Hobbs played with great energy and I thought Jordan Greenleaf came in and did some really nice things for us.  She brings a lot of energy off the bench.  I think Tamela McCorvey is showing why we are glad she is here.  She is a very steady player on both ends of the floor.  It gave players playing time.  There were some positive things that happened."

On getting the season started...

"It was good to finally get started. I think we got off on the right foot and really played well. It was good to execute some of the things we had been practicing."

On our offensive performance...

"We executed our offense very well. I think we shot the ball and passed the ball very well today."

On our defense...

"It was great, I mean, when you hold a team to as few points as we did, you know you played good defense. I think we put good pressure on them and capitalized well on their mistakes."

On getting ready to go to East Carolina for the next game...

"I think this game helped us out. We really got off on the right foot tonight."

KeKe Carrier, C

On capitalizing on their turnovers...

"We did a great job. We put a lot of pressure on them. We came out strong and played great defense for the whole game."

On this game helping to prepare for the season...

"It's one of our goals to play great defense and I think we did that today. Defense is something that we worked on in practice a lot and it was good to execute the way we did. It was good to actually see the things we worked on in a game."
