Opening statement... "We still have a lot of work to do, but I was pleased with the performance of everyone. I thought we got some good play and the bench came in, was ready to play, and put a lot of points on the board. We're still a long way away defensively, with offensive execution, but I felt really good about how everyone came in with great effort and great desire to do well."
On all players having an opportunity to play... "It gave us a good opportunity to see everyone in a competitive situation and really. I thought Courtney Strain did great coming off screens, and she's such a quick shooter. Camille Glymph just extends a defense so wide, because she's such a great 3-point shooter. Then our post players were just all over the boards, rebounding, and giving us second-chance opportunities. Great effort, I was pleased with the freshman Hasina Muhammad. I thought she did some really nice things. She's just going to get better and better."
On newcomers and the importance of the exhibition game... "They're so important, because it gives them to first opportunity to get in the new arena and this environment, the referees calling Division I basketball. So Hasina (Muhammad) being and freshman and Najat (Ouardad) coming from junior college, it's a different environment. I thought both of them did really well. Najat, my little point guard can pressure the ball so hard, and Hasina just has a lot of different things she can do at 6-1 and a perimeter player. She's going to be special."
Chantel Hilliard, Sr., F/C
On the first exhibition game... "It was good effort. We all wanted to go out there and execute our defense. Defense was the main focus. It's new, and we wanted to see how it worked on other people. We just got out there and did what we had to do."
On what the team gains from playing an exhibition game... "We have refs calling fouls, because in practice we don't call fouls. We just get out there and do it. With the refs it just gave us game-like reality, and we just went out there and did what we had to do. We made the adjustments, and it looked good."
On her double-double... "I just knew my team needed me, and I knew what I had to do to get it done. It was a great win, a team effort. I just put some shots in, that's all."
Hasina Muhammad, Fr., G/F
On the first exhibition game... "I think we played well getting us ready for our first game. I think we came out with great intensity."
On what the team gains from playing an exhibition game... "It helps us with our plays and everything, getting familiar with it and getting up and down the court. I think we're coming along great."
On her performance today... "I think I did pretty well. I came out a little nervous, but I think I contributed well to the team."
On getting used to playing in the collegiate atmosphere... "It wasn't too bad. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."

Head Coach Maurice Smith
Overall thoughts on the game... "We were able to get some stuff going in the second half. I thought we came out in the first half kind of like a deer in the headlights. We didn't know what to expect. Auburn has a very good team. They did a good job of applying that pressure on us early and creating a lot of turnovers. I thought they had a lot of second-chance opportunities. In the second half, I thought we did a little bit better. I'm not overall pleased, but it I thought it was a little bit better."
On what he can take from the loss..."We can pick anything almost and learn from this. It all comes down to fundamentals. There are tons of things that we can learn from, just from a fundamental aspect. We want to pride ourselves on defense. We didn't do a good job of getting stops and taking pride in our defense. It all comes from getting stops on defense. Offense kind of takes care of itself. We've just got to get better and work on all those things we need to improve on - just get better day-by-day."
Freshman Guard Shanteona Keys
Feelings on first game of the year... "We were definitely excited. We are all mostly freshmen and sophomores, so it's intimidating, but we are working as hard as we can to catch up to the veteran teams because we have that much more work to do."
On improvement in the second half... "We just tried to shake some nerves off. We were a little tense coming into the game, just not knowing how things would work. We knew we wanted to compete today, but we just didn't know how well we could compete. The second half, we just let go all of that because we had nothing to lose with us already being down. You just have to let loose with the best you have."
