Auburn Head Coach Nell Fortner
Opening statement... "It was a very disappointing loss today. We had some defensive breakdowns towards the end of the game, and that's what cost us the game. We didn't do well at the free throw line, but we still gave ourselves that chance to win and it was a disappointing loss."
On what went better for this game... "I thought there were some things with our defense that went better for us this game, but we had some fundamental breakdowns within that defense that were not good."
On what went wrong in the second half... "We just couldn't score. We were really trying to. Some of the shots we took were not the best shots that we could have taken on the floor at that time. We needed to move the ball a little more, but everybody is trying to make a difference for the team. However, sometimes that effort is a force shot and doesn't work for us."
Camille Glymph, So., G.
On comparing the game against the last loss to the Razorbacks... "We were prepared. We knew a lot of their plays from scout, and I just feel like we've grown as a team since then. We fought really hard, but in the end a lot of shots just weren't falling in for us, and they took it away from us."
On the loss... "It definitely hurts a lot. We fought so hard and we were so prepared for it. It's just unfortunate that shots didn't fall in the second half. We were confident and knew exactly what we were doing, we just didn't come out with a win."
Jassany Williams, So., F.
On the second half... "We good had good shots. Opportunities were there. We just weren't knocking any of them down. It was kind of frustrating at times, but we kept going, we kept being persistent, it just wasn't working at the time."
On rebounding from tough losses... "It just comes as a part of basketball. You're going to lose tough games, you just have to keep pushing and keep yourself motivated. Coach does a pretty good job of keeping us motivated. You have to have a short term memory in this line of business. If you lose, it's done with, and you have to move on."
Arkansas Head Coach Tom Collen
Opening statement... "Well we'll take wins any way we can get them. I know it probably wasn't a very pretty game for national TV, but the bottom line was if anybody was out there watching, we found a way. We showed a lot of heart. We hung in. We played with some confidence. We made some pretty big plays down the stretch and got a lot of defensive stops in the second half. I'm just proud as heck of this group that they were able to win an ugly game and a game when they didn't play well."
On what was said at halftime and the team playing better in the second half... "(Assistant Coach) Nicki (Collen) always goes in first and talks about defense, and I think she went in there and lit them up and talked about offense and defense. By the time I got in there, I think she had stolen my speech. I'd say the two biggest things that we talked to them about was turning the ball over. They scored an awful lot of their points when we turned the ball over out front, and then they got the numbers on us and got the layups. Very uncharacteristic. Fifteen turnovers at halftime, and we ended with 19, so we only had four. The second thing was rebounding. I think we only had three in the first half, and we ended up with 10, so we did a little bit better job there. When you're not putting the ball in the basket, defense, not turning the ball over and rebounds will win a lot of games for you."
On Sarah Watkins hitting big shots late in games and hitting a layup late in the game today... "I tell you what, it's funny because we had talk about running that play but we thought the matchup that we wanted was to get (Blanche) Alverson on Ashley Daniels, and we were going to run it for Ashley Daniels, but when we saw Alverson on her, I had to make a quick assessment, `So do I think Sarah can drive this thing all the way and make this shot because she's not as quick?' And you know what? I rolled the dice, and you gotta love her. She went in there and made a tough shot under contact. It wasn't an easy, uncontested layup. It was a tough shot, and for her to come back and make that shot after having a rough night like she did, I think that says a lot about her."
On having eight-consecutive wins and being in contention for a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament...
"I'm just happy for these kids right now. I'm so happy that they recovered out of the slow start. They've won eight-straight. They're playing with a lot of confidence. We get to go home for two more. We won on national TV. I think we're headed in the right direction. I told them, `Eight, that's a school record for us with SEC wins, but I don't want to stop there. I want to push that thing up as high as we can get it because we still have a lot of good basketball games to play.'"
