Auburn Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy

On tonight's game...

"South Carolina is a very good team. You've got to beat them to get that win. Although we had chances and very good opportunities, we didn't do everything on every single possession to win the basketball game."

On losing 12-point lead at the start of the game...

"South Carolina is the No. 10 team in the country for a reason. They aren't going to just stay down. Tiffany Mitchell is good enough to hit a shot and put them back into the game. Their post players are good enough to put them back into the game. That was just a great start for us to give us the confidence that we need and the momentum that we need to beat them."

On second-half scoring problems...

"They just weren't dropping. We had good looks. More than missing shots, I think it was some crucial turnovers at crucial times. You don't want to give them an opportunity to score. That's an empty possession for you. You look at every category. We got 17 more attempts at the basket than them. We out-rebounded them. We turned them over 20 times. The difference was at the free throw line. Seventy-two of their points, 23 came from the line. That's a lot of points."

On defending Hasina Muhammad...

"Hasina stops herself a little. I think there were a few times that she should have been more aggressive. I think once they went to their 2-3 zone, we became passive. You can still penetrate in the zone. People do it against us all the time."

On players adjusting to officiating...

"We are 15 games into it. We have to know how the game is being called. We have to move our feet. We have to play defense. Our fouls are just really dumb fouls. A kid is shooting, and you are going to come down on her. You know that's a foul. Just stand straight up and let the kid shoot. We aren't playing very smart defensively."

On cutting South Carolina's lead towards the end...

"We are always going to fight. We are always going to show effort. It's just who we are. We aren't going to just put our heads down and say that are up so many points. We are a good enough defensive pressing team to cause havoc. We can still score throughout our press. It is just the inconsistency with turnovers and fouling too much that hurts us."

Auburn Player Quotes

Tyrese Tanner, Sr., Forward

On tonight's game...

"We are a little disappointed because we didn't execute everything that we should have. I think we had too many breakdowns. It is just like what Coach Flo told us in the locker room, if you look everything we did, we out-rebounded them, and we forced 20 turnovers. We should have won the game. In the first half, we proved that we could beat them. In the second half, we didn't follow through from the first."

On getting out to an early lead...

"We got the ball inside. We didn't do it as much in the second half. We did great and got great looks when we got it inside. We didn't continue to do that in the second half."

On getting into foul trouble...

"I think we had some mistakes reaching in and not being smart on that end. Some of the stuff I don't agree with, but I try not to get into foul trouble every game. The coaches tell me not to get in foul trouble. I don't know what is wrong with me. It happens every game. I am trying to work on it. I think the bench did well when Brandy (Montgomery) and I were in foul trouble. We stayed in the game and at halftime it was tied. We could have done better with our foul situation in the first half. They went to the free throw line 23 times. That is the story of the game there."

On Auburn's scoring drought in the first half...

"We had a lack of focus as a team. We didn't do what we needed to do. We let them come back and make their run. We didn't make as many runs as they did and that hurt us."

Tra'Cee Tanner, Jr., Forward

On getting out to an early lead...

"We didn't take advantage of our opportunities. We didn't take enough advantage of the mistakes that we made."

South Carolina Quotes

Head Coach Dawn Staley

On change in pace...

"I think that sometimes, we are the hunted at this point. We knew that Auburn would come out. They play extremely well at home. We just had to keep our heads and stay calm, and know that throughout the course of the game you are going to have runs. We just had to wait until our run. It came shortly after they took their 12 point lead."

On defense...

"For us, I thought that we have to get back to doing things that we normally do. I thought we played kind of frantic. We were gambling a little bit. We allowed their pressure to bother us and create offense for them. As soon as we could take care of the ball a little better, we created some offense from our defense, and forced them to take some outside shots."

On Alaina Coates...

"For us our bigs have been the players who have taken the high percentage shots for us. We wanted to concentrate on getting the ball down there on the block. We felt like we could have an advantage down there. Not just having Alaina Coates up there but also Elem Ibiam just over the course of 40 minutes. We just tried to keep pounding them in and hopefully wear Auburn down."

Guard Tiffany Mitchell

On turnaround at halftime...

"I think we just decided to use our length on getting in the passing lane. Buckle down defensively. We are known as a defensive team, so we stuck to the mindset and get some stops."

On score after turnaround...

"We just stayed calm. We knew that they had a run in them. We knew we had to pick up the defensive pressure and that is what I did. I just played the passing lane and read the defense."

Forward Alaina Coates

On when they were down...

"We just knew that we had to stay calm and take it one minute at a time. We are not known to freak out. We know what to do and we know how to handle situations like that. We were just able to do what we did."
