Recap |  Box Score

Auburn, Ala. - Auburn Arena

Auburn Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy

On tonight's game...
"I thought in the first half we were a little tentative offensively. We were worried about too many other things. We definitely came back in the second half and play a little more aggressive. At the end of the day, it's our defense that has to win basketball games for us."

On defending Vanderbilt's Christina Foggie...
"I think Vanderbilt just spread us out our press. She was deep down in the corner and that is very tough for our back line, for a Peyton Davis or a Tra'Cee Tanner to get out to her. It was tough. We didn't do a very good job of locating her early. It was just us communicating defensively and finding her early."

On losing streak against Vanderbilt...
"I don't know because I haven't been here. It won't happen in my tenure. We will beat them. When? I don't know, but we will beat them. I have no idea about the streak."

On team's mindset...
"We had this game tonight. If you take away the officiating in the first half, we wouldn't have as many people sitting on the bench. It would have been a totally different ball game. They are very beatable team. We should have beaten them here at home."

On the first half struggles...
"We put them on the free throw line. They had 16 points from the free throw line. A team that shoots as well as Vanderbilt at the line the last thing you want to do is out them on the line. You want to make them earn every single basketball."

On players' inconsistency...
"They are not perfect. They are going to miss. We are not a team that is based on our offense. We are a defense-based team. Our offense comes from our defense. We have to better defensively."

On change in second- half officiating...
"When Vanderbilt doesn't get in the bonus at all in the second half, it's definitely two games being called. We have to make adjustments to how the game is being called. It's just a tough changing in officiating that really hurt us."

On how the officiating changed compared to first half...
"The fouls were just not being called. I don't know if there was any difference. We were bumping them. We were hitting them. I can't really say if we weren't doing the same thing the second half. It just wasn't being called."

Senior forward Tyrese Tanner

On tonight's game and Vanderbilt's winning streak vs. Auburn...
"In my years being here we have wanted to beat Vanderbilt but we just never have, so it a pretty tough loss for us. I am excited for one thing, that we get to play them again and try and win that game. Im not happy with how I played and that we didn't stick to our game plan."

On personal struggles...
"The shots I usually take, I make, but this game I just couldn't do it. I tried to do it on defense but I got into foul trouble and I had to stop doing that because it hurts my team so I just have to work on that."

On post success...
"That was our game plan but we should have actually had more. We settled for a lot of jump shots instead of attacking more but that is a positive thing."

Junior Guard Hasina Muhammad

On struggles against the 3-point shot ...
"The one thing we worked on in practice was communication, we really focused on it and tonight we had a lack of communication over and over again and the result was the 3-point shot."

About personal game...
"Obviously I wasn't as consistent as I should be but you can't make them all. I just tried my hardest."

Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb

Opening statement...
"I think that we are a good outside shooting team and that's where we're confident. It was just trying to get past their pressure up front and make plays to get the ball to our shooters. I think Jasmine Lister did a good job finding Christina Foggie, creating off the dribble and hitting her. I thought Kady Schrann did the same thing. We did a good job of penetrating and attacking and knowing what we were looking for and hitting our shooters. Foggie was shooting the ball really well."

On the 21 straight wins against Auburn...
"I don't know what it is. It's the only team we've had this streak on in the conference. I think it's just about matchups, the types of coaches, their style and how we match up. It's always been a positive for us. We look at the history and tradition and it helps us bring confidence into us knowing we've been successful in the past. I think it helps us with our mental mindset going into the game. I gives us confidence."

On free throw shooting...
"I think we weren't in the bonus so they had to keep on fouling and we got some of the clock down. We're confident free throw shooters. I don't want to jinx, but that's probably our best stat. On the road with the band and the cheerleaders right under there I liked our composure and it was top to bottom. Specifically, we want Lister or Foggie and I have two seniors that are going to make free throws down the stretch because they have so much experience and have done it so many times before."

Vanderbilt Guard Christina Foggie

On finding her rhythm...
"I think it's a lot like coach said with the pressure. Jasmine really took it and beat it and that gave me shots that were pretty open. When you're a shooter it's pretty easy to knockdown those shots. A lot of that came from my teammate's screens and Jasmine being the pressure and drawing the defense to get to me."

On the team's rebounding...
"We always want to get clean rebounds and get out in transition and some of our post players did a really good job getting rebounds. That allowed us to get the ball to Jasmine and really push the ball in transition. I think that's huge momentum for us when we can get those clean rebounds and get out and score quickly."
