Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

HEAD COACH Nell Fortner
"You always hear about LSU in terms of offense, but they have a heck of a defensive team too. I am proud of our team for holding them to only 65 points. Our defense was good enough for us to win, but we couldn't score points. That is what a lot of teams are having trouble with and that is because of their defense. Tonight, you saw a young team trying to figure things out. They played a little scared, but that was because of our youth and what LSU did to us. They didn't let us get comfortable."

On Sylvia Fowles...
"She is absolutely amazing. I have seen a lot of basketball players, but I have never seen another player that is as physically gifted. Nobody brings to the table what she does. You just tell the player who is guarding her `good luck.' You just try to keep her out of the paint, but you can't. She has a great knack for post playing. She is always getting the ball where she wants it and is always ahead. She is strong and has long arms and just a great length. She is very good. She got better this year, which is scary, because that means she is going to get better next year and the year after. She is a difference maker. If she were in the draft, she would be No. 1."

On building on this game...
"LSU is just as good as the No. 1 team; they are in a three way tie. They are just that good. We just have to keep going because the SEC season is tough. I am looking forward to playing on Sunday."

SENIOR Nitasha Brown

On game...
"I felt that we were prepared for the game. This was our first SEC game and we have a developing team. You don't know what to expect for the rest of the season. Playing the No. 3 team is a plus, it challenges us. We hope to learn from this game."

On LSU...
"They are tough. We are out there playing against All-Americans. We have respect for them and for their talent. No one is intimidated by them. We had a lot of turnovers which was the main piece of the game."

FRESHMAN Whitney Boddie
On SEC...
"They gave us a fair amount of warning of what it would be like. LSU is good. We are prepared for what we will see. This game doesn't determine what our record will be. We will move on and get better."

On LSU...
"We have respect for them because they are a good team. We respect everyone. We just go out there and play.

HEAD COACH POKEY CHAPMAN
On the game...
"Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the way we played. For as far back as I can remember, we've had trouble in this building. We came and played two halves of basketball. We shot 60 percent in the first half, and when you do that, things are going good for you."

On matchup with the centers...
"I'm a coach so I always want to get better. I think it's just a next step in the right direction. Fowles has impressed us with her ability to stay on the floor and change the shape of the game."

On Scholanda Hoston...
"She understands what she has to do. Things are beginning to come into place for her. When she was struggling offensively, it didn't affect her defense. I think a lot of it has to do with the way we're running our team offense."

On the absence of Florence Williams on the court...
"We talked about maturity, and it showed tonight. When you're missing a player, you have to make adjustments. It's a game of adjustments. That's where experience comes in. It helped us step up."

On team feeding off its defense...
"There is a fine line between shots not falling and shot selection and we stress that to our kids. We don't want our kids to get deflated because they're missing shots. When our shots weren't falling, there was no defensive drop off, and we scored 33 points off turnovers. There were a lot of places that we make up for it."

LSU Guard Scholanda Hoston
On team stepping up...
"That's the beauty of our team. We have so many players that are cabable of stepping up at any time and getting the job done."

On Hoston, Augustus and Fowles compiling much of LSU's offense...
"We're all talented. We have players on the bench that can step up at any time too if any of us are off. Ashley (Thomas) started for us tonight and did great."

On LSU's defense and forcing turnovers...
"It was a conscious effort. We recognized who we were guarding. We changed our defenses up a lot, and we had a good game plan. We executed well."

LSU Guard Seimone Augustus
On the youth of Auburn's team...
"They're young. They're going to be a great team in a year or two. They just need to get used to the game and playing in this conference. This is a tough conference. They just need some time to grow. They have a great coach and a great system"
