Auburn 65 vs. George Washington 68
Auburn Post Game Quotes

DeWanna Bonner, Junior Forward

On her initial reaction to the loss...
"It's interesting how things happen. It's interesting how players come in and make a big impact like Lisa Steele did off the bench. I don't think she took two shots the whole game before she made that shot but, we got a good contest on the shot; it was just a good shot. So, we just have to move on."

On her injury in the first half...
"Yeah, I kind of got out from under my legs. It kind of got me a little stiff. I did a little jogging to keep myself warm and I did a little stretching but, I had to get back in the game no matter what. It was a big game day."

On keeping an eye on Lisa Steele...
"I didn't even know she had checked in the game, to be honest. I knew she was over there but, my girl was coming up the middle. So, I guess I was more focused on her, but then she just made a good shot."

Alli Smalley, Freshman Guard

On the last 10 seconds of the game...
"I remember looking up and there were five seconds left. I had the point guard but Tamela ended up picking her up but, we just didn't match up like we should have. I guess it just all happened too fast. She just got down there and got off a good shot."

Head Coach Nell Fortner

Opening Statement
"We wanted to win it, and we worked hard to win it, but we just fell a little short. If we would have hit our free throws, I think we would have won the game. We are a good basketball team, and we are just reinventing ourselves a little bit and we will be fine."

On Starting Alli Smalley...

"When we start Alli at point guard we play a little bit different style. We will just have to get used to that. Right now, I think she took another step forward tonight, and I think she is doing a fine job at the point. We just got off to a little bit of a slow start and got behind in the game, and you just can't do that, especially, when you are at home. You want to take advantage of the home court. We came back and got on track, and I thought we fought hard to win the game."

On George Washington's last possession ...
"We didn't match up. Everyone was just looking at the clock, and they were walking the ball down the court. We were all clumped up in the middle and we didn't match up, and the kid just hit the big shot but no one was out there on her. We just didn't finish the game out strong. I think Gorge Washington was just as shocked as we were."

On the second half defense...
"I thought we really cranked down on defense in the second half and made some big stops at the end, some really big stops. Tamela knocked down a big three and we had some kids making some big plays at the end and that's what needs to happen. That's why I didn't call a timeout because I felt like we the confidence and we were rolling. I thought we got a good shot at the end but it just fell a little short and we didn't match up at the end."

George Washington Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Joe McKeown

Opening Statement
"I was really proud of our team because the crowd got loud and to see the energy coming back into them every time they did. It just seemed like Sarah-Jo Lawrence made a big three. It just shows these guys are competitors. It's a great experience for us to go on the road like this and beat a top 20 SEC team."

On Taking advantage of Auburn's size...
"They did a good job. I thought they did a pretty good job. Jessica Adair had double figures. We couldn't get Jaz (Jazmine Adair) and Jess in there together to really take advantage of them. Auburn did a good job, they rotated well, double-teamed hard. They are quick and athletic. They are not big, but we couldn't get it in deep enough to get them in foul trouble."

Sarah-Jo Lawrence, senior guard

On her big three-point-shot at the end of the game and George Washington' shooting...
"We didn't do a good job of rebounding so we needed to make our first shots. We were just really focused because they kept taking momentum and we needed to get it back."

Kimberly Beck, senior guard

On guarding Bonner...
"She is a hard match-up because she is so tall. She has a quick first step and I think we did a pretty good job. We should have cleaned up better on the boards. We didn't block her out a lot but, she's a good player and she played well tonight."
