AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's Max Hinnisdaels captured the singles championship Sunday at the ITA Southern Regional tournament at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Hinnisdaels faced Tuki Jacobs of South Alabama in the singles final, winning the first set 6-2 and then winning a close second set 7-5 to take the title.
That win earns Hinnisdaels a singles berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in November 12-15 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
Advancing to the regional final for the second consecutive year, Hinnisdaels defeated Giovani Samaha of Troy in his semifinal match Sunday by a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Next weekend, Auburn hosts the SEC Fall Tournament October 23-26 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. That will be the Tigers' only home competition of the fall season.
