AUBURN - The Auburn men's tennis team will open the 2011 fall season with some familiar faces in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings, which were released Friday. Auburn senior Alex Stamchev, junior Andreas Mies, and sophomores Daniel Cochrane and Dennis Lengsfeld were all acknowledged by the ITA.

Stamchev, who finished ranked No. 114 after his 16-10 singles record in 2011, will begin his final season on the Plains ranked No. 57 nationally. Stamchev competed in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions last season, and defeated three ranked opponents. The Pleven, Bulgaria, native and Mies were dominant last season in the No. 2 spot in doubles compiling an 18-5 record and finished with a No. 84 ranking. This year, the duo will begin the season ranked No. 26.

Mies finished last season with a team-high 23 wins in singles and will start his junior year ranked No. 70, the highest ranking of his career. Mies started the season out 14-0 before falling to Florida's Bob van Overbeek in three sets. The German native's versatility was an asset for the Tigers as he was able to play in the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.

Cochrane and new doubles partner, Dennis Lengsfeld, are ranked No. 30 in the season's initial ITA release. Cochrane finished last season in the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championship with partner Tim Puetz. Cochrane and Puetz compiled a 14-7 record while competing in the No. 1 position. The duo upset Ole Miss' No. 8 ranked duo of Chris Thiemann and Marcel Thiemann, 8-5, in the Tigers' first team victory over the Rebels in 18 years.

Lengsfeld, a sophomore transfer from Baylor, will begin his Auburn career ranked No. 54, the highest preseason ranking by a Tiger since Puetz was also ranked No. 54 in 2009. Last year at Baylor, Lengsfeld posted a 13-10 record in his freshman season while competing in every position except No. 1. Lengsfeld helped Baylor claim the Big 12 regular season championship when he clinched the match at the No. 6 position vs. Texas A&M. He was also named the ITA Texas Region Rookie of the Year.

The Tigers will kick off their fall season at the Southern Intercollegiate, which runs Sept. 23-26 in Athens, Ga.
