AUBURN, Ala. - A pair of Auburn men's tennis players in senior Tim Puetz and junior Alex Stamchev has been ranked in the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Rankings, the ITA office announced Friday afternoon.
Puetz enters the fall season ranked No. 11 in singles competition. The native of Usingen, Germany, reached the semifinals of the 2010 NCAA Men's Singles Championships and finished his junior season with a 32-11 overall mark, including a 16-7 finish against opponents in the ITA Top-125.
Stamchev comes into his third year ranked No. 73 in singles play. The Pleven, Bulgaria, product concluded his second year at Auburn with an 18-12 mark and primary played at the No. 3 singles position for the Tigers.
Puetz and Stamchev make up the fifth-ranked doubles team in the country during the preseason according to the ITA. The pair competed as Auburn's No. 1 doubles team all 2009-10 season and finished the year with a 24-10 overall mark, qualifying for the 2010 NCAA Men's Doubles Championships though fell in the first round.
The ITA also announced Friday the qualifiers for the 2010 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships held Oct. 2-10 at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. Puetz was selected for the Main Singles Draw, while Stamchev will compete in the Qualifying Singles round. The pair will also take part in the doubles side of the tournament, being selected for the main draw.
