Puetz, Stamchev In Preseason ITA Rankings

AUBURN, Ala. -Auburn men's tennis team members Tim Puetz and Alex Stamchev have been recognized in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles and double rankings, announced the ITA on Sept. 4. Puetz, of Usiugen, Germany, enters the season with a No. 54 singles ranking. The junior finished the 2009 season with a 21-8 overall records and was an All-SEC Second Team selection. In the doubles rankings, the team of Puetz and Stamchev comes in at No. 21. The duo did not compete together last season, but Puetz earned All-America honors and advanced to the NCAA semifinals with partner Alexey Tsyrenov. The pair finished 36-12 on the season. Stamchev, a sophomore from Pleven, Bulgaria, competed with Lukas Marsoun for most of the season and compiled a 31-14 record. Auburn opens the fall season with a trip to Tulsa, Okla., for the All-American Tournament, Oct. 2-11. The Tigers also travel to the Georgia Tech Tournament, Oct. 3-5, in Atlanta.
