AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team earned its 15th consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships and will open up against Harvard on Saturday, May 10 in Norman, Okla.
The Tigers (14-13) will be making its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament under head coach Eric Shore. Auburn will head to Norman, Okla., for the second straight year as the Tigers opened the postseason at the Oklahoma Regional last season. In 2013, NC State eliminated the Tigers from the postseason with a 4-1 decision in the first round.
"We're in, but it's been a disappointing last month of the season. To get in, that was a positive, but we're not happy with how we finished up," Shore said. "It's got to be a fresh start and we'll go there ready to go. We've changed our doubles around and hopefully it will get some positive things going. Hopefully, our younger guys will realize it was really disappointing how it finished for us the last five weeks, but hopefully we can really get it together over the next 10 days before we go out there."
Harvard, who is making its 23rd overall appearance in the NCAA Championships, finished second in the Ivy League behind conference champion Columbia. The Crimson (17-6) were 6-1 in Ivy League play and finished the regular season ranked No. 31 in the ITA rankings. This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams, with Harvard holding a 3-1 advantage over Auburn.
The Tigers and Crimson will open up the Norman Regional on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center. No. 2 overall seed and host Oklahoma will take on Montana at 2 p.m. The winners of both matches will meet on Sunday, May 11.
Individual selections for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Wednesday. Georgia will host the team championships, as well as the individual championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, which run May 15-26.
