AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men’s tennis team takes to the road for the final time in the regular season by traveling to College Station, Texas, to take on No. 10 Texas A&M Saturday at 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
No. 36 Auburn (14-9, 4-5 SEC) looks to snap its four-match losing skid in conference play during their lone match of the weekend. Saturday’s match against the Aggies was previously scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., but rain in the forecast bumped up the contest to Saturday night.
The Tigers dropped a pair of close contests last weekend at home to Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Auburn fell 4-2 to the Wildcats last Friday and dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Kentucky last Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Senior Daniel Cochrane leads the Tigers with a 14-2 mark in dual match play, including a 6-1 record against SEC foes in singles. Junior Lukas Ollert picked up his fifth win of the year over a ranked opponent last Sunday against Vanderbilt.
Cochrane and freshman Oliver Plaskett continued to be ranked in doubles by the ITA at No. 49, while Ollert and Dennis Lengsfeld lead the Tigers with an 11-7 record in dual matches.
Texas A&M (18-5, 7-1 SEC) is tied for first in the SEC standings along with eighth-ranked Georgia. The Aggies boast the reigning SEC Player of the Week Jackson Withrow as Texas A&M swept Georgia and Tennessee last weekend on the road.
Auburn leads the all-time series between the two teams, 3-2. The Tigers upset the Aggies last season at the Yarbrough Tennis Center with a 4-3 victory in their first meeting in SEC play.
