The 40th-ranked Auburn men's tennis team will take a break from SEC play this week as it travels to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery. The tournament begins Thursday as Auburn will take on 70th-ranked Fresno State at 4 p.m. at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
"There is a strong field at this tournament as every team competing is ranked," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "I am not real familiar with Fresno State, but I do know that they play a tough schedule and it will be a tough match tomorrow."
Auburn is 8-3 (2-2 SEC) after falling 6-1 to then-No. 8 Ole Miss. Fresno State is 4-5 on the year, having dropped a 5-2 decision to Oklahoma State on March 11. Senior Robbert Lathouwers enters the match having not dropped a match in singles play, 11-0.
With a win Auburn will meet the winner of top-seeded and seventh-ranked Notre Dame and Texas A&M CC at 11 a.m. Friday. If Auburn falls to Fresno State it will play the loser of the aforementioned match at 4 p.m. Friday.
