AUBURN, Ala. – With the final non-conference weekend upon both the Auburn men’s and women’s tennis teams, the Tigers now know their upcoming opponents as the draws for the Blue Gray Classic were released on Wednesday.
The No. 28 Auburn men (9-2) will face No. 55 Texas Tech in its opening round match on Friday starting at 4 p.m. at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park. The No. 19 Tiger women (8-1) will take their eight-match winning streak into its first match of the weekend against No. 75 Tulane.
“The team is really excited to be going back to the Blue Gray Tournament this year. This is such an honor for us to be able to play, the organizers and host families do such an amazing job putting this event together each year,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “The draw is stacked with high-quality, ranked opponents that give us great opportunities to see what this team is really made of and the fact that we will have a great Auburn Family presence with our fans gives us a homecourt advantage.”
Auburn’s women just faced Tulane last Friday on the Green Wave’s home court in New Orleans. The Tigers came away with a 4-2 victory over Tulane. Auburn will be the second seed at this weekend’s tournament.
“Playing Tulane again is going to be exciting, we know what we are up against and the girls are ready to battle,” Meisner said.
Auburn’s men saw its five-match winning streak snapped on Sunday at the hands of No. 23 Clemson and look to rebound against the Red Raiders. The Tigers are seeded third at this year’s Blue Gray Tournament.
“We are looking forward to the tournament and the challenge of starting with Texas Tech on Friday,” Auburn men’s tennis coach Eric Shore said.
Live scoring and results will be available at BlueGrayTennis.com. On the men’s side Alabama, Boise State, Clemson, Mississippi State, Princeton, Texas Tech and VCU join the Tigers. In the women’s draw, Alabama, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Rice, Texas Tech, Tulane and Yale will all be at the tournament along with Auburn.
