AUBURN, Ala. -- The No. 28 Auburn men's tennis team hosts Southern Mississippi on Friday, Feb. 11, and No. 19 North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 12. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Center and admission is free.
"We're hosting a pair of tough matches this weekend and are anxious to compete," head coach Eric Shore said. "Both matches will help us see where we are at early this season and what we need to continue to work on as the season progresses."
Friday will be the 13th meeting between the Tigers and Golden Eagles with Auburn holding a 12-0 advantage. Last year, the two teams faced off with Auburn coming away with a 6-1 win. The Tar Heels and Tigers matchup will also be the 13th between the two schools. The series is even at 6-6 after UNC defeated Auburn last year, 4-3, in Chapel Hill.
Recapping the Weekend
The Tigers defeated the Troy Trojans 7-0 on Sunday, Feb. 6. Auburn took the doubles point after winning all three matchups. Senior Tim Puetz and freshman Daniel Cochrane defeated Branko Weber and Mario Rolemberg 8-0 in the No. 1 spot. In singles play, the Tigers won all six matches. Sophomore Andreas Mies came away with an easy victory in the No. 6 spot winning 6-1, 6-1.
Previewing the Golden Eagles
Southern Mississippi is currently 1-5 after losing all three matches at the UNLV Rebel Classic. The Golden Eagles played Ole Miss in the first match of the year, losing 6-0. They followed with a loss to Jacksonville State before defeating Alcorn State, 5-2.

Up Next for the Tigers
The 19th-ranked Tar Heels are 2-1 after sweeping Charlotte in the first match of the year and edging out No. 23 Georgia Tech, 4-3. North Carolina's lone loss came at the hands of No. 11 Georgia, who won 4-1.
The Tar Heels currently have three players ranked in Top 100 by ITA, led by Jose Hernandez, who is ranked 30th.
Auburn will host two more home matches against UAB and Georgia Tech before hitting the road for the Blue Gray National Classic in Montgomery. The Tigers play UAB on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 1:30. Auburn hosts Georgia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Yarbrough Tennis Center and admission is free.
