AUBURN - The 21st-ranked Auburn men's tennis team will make the short trip to Birmingham on Saturday to face in-state rival UAB in a non-conference dual match at 1 p.m. at George Ward Park.
The Tigers (4-1) continue a five-match road swing after splitting a pair of contests last weekend at the ITA Kick-Off in Starkville, Miss. Auburn picked up a 6-1 win over then-No. 23 Indiana on Saturday but dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to host and No. 11 Mississippi State on Sunday.
Auburn has been paced so far this year by doubles play and the middle of the singles lineup. The Tigers are a combined 13-1 in doubles through the first five matches of the dual season, led by the nation's No. 2-ranked duo of senior Andreas Mies and junior Daniel Cochrane. But at the second doubles position, senior Lucas Lopasso and junior Dennis Lengsfeld are 5-0 in dual play as well, and a combined 10-0 going back to the fall season.
Lopasso and sophomore Lukas Ollert have been steady in the middle of the singles lineup with both players unbeaten thus far in dual match play. Lopasso is 4-0, going 2-0 at both the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots, while Ollert is 5-0 overall, winning four times at No. 3 singles and once at the No. 2 position. Across all six singles spots, Auburn is 24-6 on the year.
UAB enters the match at 2-2 on the year and is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss at No. 55 Arkansas on Wednesday. The Blazers have wins over Florida A&M and Florida Gulf Coast to go with losses to Arkansas and Florida State.
This will be the 29th meeting in dual match play between Auburn and UAB. The Tigers are 21-7 in the all-time series and have won the last 11 meetings with the Blazers.
