TEMPE, Ariz. - Auburn's Alex Petropoulos and Lukas Marsoun went 3-2 in the first day of the Arizona State Thunderbird Tennis Classic on Friday and will advance to Saturday's doubles semifinals.

Petropoulos and Marsoun both picked up first-round singles win before falling in the second round. The duo then teamed up in doubles, taking down the team of Roman Stoisavljevic (New Mexico State) and Jack Marsh (Arizona State). They will take on Arizona State's T.J. Bellman and Juan Carlos Rebaza in Saturda's semifinals.

"It was a little disappointing today in the second round singles with the losses, we didn't play extremely well," said head coach Eric Shore. "But, we will come back tomorrow and see if we can turn it around in the doubles and see if we can pick up a win there."

In singles action, Petropoulos defeated Arizona State's Patrick Brogan, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to Middle Tennessee State's John Peters (6-3, 6-2) in the second round.

Marsoun picked up his first-round win over Middle Tennessee State's Derrick Davison, 6-2, 6-1, before losing to Arkansas' Christopher Nott, 6-4, 6-3.

Petropoulos and Marsoun will continue in the singles consolation bracket on Saturday.
